Artwork and writing has often been a mechanism for me to attempt to reach out to other intelligent beings in a way that conveys meaning. Understanding involves a true conceptual grasp of that which is being focused on.
In this piece, I use a number of styles and techniques around the single dab or stroke of paint in layers of contrasting warm and cool colors. The designs of abstract faces and tribal patterns allude to the cultural and philosophical beliefs of other individuals and societies.
Although true and complete understanding of others is impossible, we can empathize and approach the joy and suffering of other beings.
Visually, I find this piece engaging and almost hypnotic in swirling patterns that reveal, only subtly, impressions of commonly understood subject matter.
