on yellow-orange

Yellow-orange is the color of mango fruit. It is a tropical or carribean color and together with beautiful compliments like yellow-green, a mango chutny with a lime wedge can be seen in the mind's eye.

Mango is a color of wakefulness and vibrance. It is the color of the setting sun. Mango sunsets over the Florida horizon meant the showers were over for the afternoon.

A great color for a space of action or activity, like a hall or kitchen, yellow-orange is uniquely between its parents, yellow and orange. Better than both, in my mind, yellow-orange seizes the vibrance of yellow and tweaks it ever so subtly with the fall color of orange to yield something smoother. It is like custard this color, like tapioca pudding.

This is the color of many oranges and much of the exotic fruit that can be found growing somewhere near the equator.
