The terms conspiracy and conspiracy theory simply mean that two or more people conspired, in some degree of secrecy, to do something. These terms should not denote any negative connotation or imply falsity.
It is almost a certain truth that Kennedy was assassinated by domestic elements of government, yet, this answer is "wrong" on most high school and collegiate exams. Disinformation and propaganda trickles down into the classrooms and speaking the truth gets you ridiculed rather than good grades. So, slowly, we become brainwashed into towing the government line so we can get paid, get along, get a career, and think well of this our nation.
The powers that be in government and in academics (both brainwashed institutionalized and herd-mentality centers) want you to think that conspiracy theories are nonsense. It works in their interest.
But, the reality is that many conspiracy theories are not theories at all but scientific fact. Because of the dumbing down of Americans in the realm of science and logic, even well meaning liberals often do not see the truth of the 911 demolition and many conservatives simply can not allow such a truth within their conceptual architecture.
All possible interpretations of what happened on 9-11, from the government's official lies to people's various theories are all, in fact, conspiracy theories. Those in power are currently attempting to convince the public that any theory that deviates from the official government story are bad or broken people.
Our minds must not be sound because we believe our eyes, physics, and first-hand accounts more than the 9-11 commission, which, by the way, avoided many of the central issues and aspects surrounding the events of September 11th, 2001.
How did World Trade Center #7, a government intelligence and NYC government building, collapse, uniformly at freefall speed on September 11th in the afternoon? How did two buildings, designed specifically to withstand jetliner impact, collapse?
Demolition is the only sound and reasonable answer yet I am told by so many of my fellow citizens that such a possibility is impossible. No, it's not. It's easy with such a stupid, dull populace and Israel and the rest of the world knows it. We are sheep in America, led to slaughter by forces we neither want to look at nor have the mental attention to research.
The term "conspiracy theory" has been made synonymous with "crackpot" or "kook" or wearers of "tin-foil hats" for various reasons, the main reason being disinformation and the desire by those in power to confuse and obfuscate the truth of world events. It is extremely useful for those who are in power to be able to convince the general public of anything they say is true.

Remember that, just because the government says something does not necessarily make it true. And, if the government has lied and plotted against its own citizens and against other people and nations in the past, we can expect that they will do so in the future. (Look up Operation Northwoods, where the U.S. plotted to bomb Florida cities and blame it on Cuba to start a full invasion).
We know the Russians lied to their people all the time. We know the Chinese lie to their people all the time. It has become my firm belief that America is the most advanced propagandist nation in the history of the world.
We are fed overwhelming propaganda in public schools, universities, and in papers and news on television. However, the internet has begun to provide a place where information can truly, freely, be shared concerning the actions of governments and corporations.
We know the Gulf of Tonkin incident was invented to garner support for the Vietnam war. We know the sinking of the Maine occurred in very questionable circumstances and was used as a pretext for the invasion of Cuba.
We know the sinking of the Lusitania was used as a pretext to WWI and we know that the events of Pearl Harbor were a pretext to WWII. We know, from Hunt's deathbed confession, that Kennedy was killed by the CIA- a theory put forth because of the motive evident in Kennedy's desire to end secret societies and punish the CIA for the Bay of Pigs.
Lies, Patsies, created incidents and accidents, and propaganda are more the norm than the truth. One need only look to the April 20th BP Gulf Oil rig explosions for a case of government covering up something that simply can't be well hidden. For more than a month, the American people were led to believe that the situation was under control and that BP was handling the situation with expediency.
We now know, only a month later, that these lies put forth from the government were horribly and terribly wrong. Perhaps, if the American people had known more sooner, we could have pressured a response to contain the incident.
Perhaps it was sabotage or an accident, but, given secrecy, we can not know what is really happening in our world and who is actually responsible.
9-11 was a conspiracy. No matter what you believe, some form of conspiracy theory describes the events of September 11th, 2001. In my strong opinion, this was a covert black-op military exercise, carried out by ultra-secret levels of the American and Israeli governments and was designed to terrify the American people and bring us to war in the Middle East. Who is to blame? The Executive branch, the Pentagon, and Mosaad.
