Enjoyment is a moderately positive emotional state in which the individual is interested, contented, and to some degree, happy with their circumstances as a being or, in this case, a human being.
To be in this state is a good thing because it can be sustained easily and indefinitely without being such a high or positive emotional state that it will result in any kind of necessary down phase should it end.
To enjoy something is not necessarily to be joyous about it but something a bit less than this higher version of a similar emotional experience.
Often, the emotional state of enjoyment is accompanied by a certain place that one enjoys to be or an activity that one enjoys engaging in.
Humans have a myriad of diverse ways in which to enjoy their existence, though, for some, it can be difficult to attain even this lower state of positive emotion if they are suffering from an affliction of a lower emotional state such as depression or hatred.
Someone who is depressed is precisely in a state where nothing can be found enjoyable.
Enjoyment is bright and effortless.
To find oneself in an enjoyable state is light and easy.
There is nothing about enjoyment that entails excess or negativity inherent in it except that, for most humans, maintaining a constant state of uninterrupted enjoyment is almost impossible given the various needs and desires of the human mind and body.
Pain can take the enjoyment or fun out of a previously enjoyed activity, like playing tennis or riding a bike, be it mental pain or physical pain, the latter of which often crosses over into the former form to some degree.
Enjoyment is neither overly positive nor at all negative in the sense that it is a state in which most humans, including myself, would love to be capable of maintaining.
The brighter and hotter, more precarious ends of the emotional spectrum are always beckoning however, and someone who has once gone into states of hypomania, elation, or experiences of the sublime can become, in a very real sense, addicted to the pursuit of and recapturing of, these intense emotional states.
The problem with seeking more than a just above baseline positive emotion such as enjoyment is that the higher one climbs, the lower the chasm of negative emotion that will result when the positive emotion is exhausted.
