the philosophy of environmentalism

drupal statistics

Humans are laying waste to the natural environment of Earth because greed and populations have outpaced our protection of scarce resources and natural habitats.

The best way to correct this is to do all of the things that capitalism, the dominant economic and social philosophy, is against.

Why is capitalism so dominant?

Because it cater's to human greed and the money made by the wealthiest individuals and corporations goes back into the media which brainwashes people from seeing the greater picture and alternatives to it.

Environmentalism is not a conservative or liberal issue.

It is both a matter of survival and of aesthetics from any social or political paradigm or worldview.

No matter what you believe about god or country or war or peace, is it not better to reserve large segments of the world for the natural and untouched beauty of nature?

Also, this untouched nature is precisely where our homeostasis in terms of Earth's atmosphere, water, and soil come from.

We may find new medicines, new species, and new ways of existence in the shrinking prestine areas of this planet that huamans have virally occupied now for only a geological blink of an eye.

I predict that humans will ultimately survive, but not without great perils of loss and suffering in the near and not so near future.

A finite environment can not support infinite production and manufacturing and mouths to feed.

A finite landscape can not support infinite growth.

We measure our progress in terms of gross domestic products rather than in happiness or health.

In our American system of 2011, our health is anathema to the capitalistic healthcare for-profit system and it is better for the system that we should all stay addicted, sick, and mentally unwell.

It is better for the system of greed that we are fat, cancer-ridden, and chemically saturated.

The environment's health is not some abstract concept apart from our own health.

With the trees and birds and fish go humans.

With the water goes our blood.

With the air goes our lungs.

With the ozone goes our skin.

We need energy to sustain our way of life and our current modes of aquiring energy are quickly running out.

Humans will wage wars and make great efforts to capture every last drop of wealth from the Earth before we are forced to change in a great mass of suffering.

But, if we were wise, we would see this ahead of time and learn to change our ways so that the changes which are necessary can come at a gradual, rather than world-shattering, pace.
