on happiness

Happiness is an emotion that is synonymous with contentment and interest with some degree of pleasure mixed in.

We can be pleased and happy about our circumstances or about a piece of music that is playing or about the colors in the painting we are viewing.

Happiness, on my emotional chart, falls between pleasure and interest because pleasure is harder to maintain whereas interest does not necessarily denote the higher mood that happiness does.

Happiness is easy and steady and it can be maintained indefinitely as interest can be. However, once we rise to the level of pleasure, we begin to introduce a degree of fleeting nature to the emotion.

Happiness can be caused from any number of things inside or outside of us.

A thought can bring about happiness though it is harder, though not impossible, to imagine how a thought can bring about pleasure.

Usually, pleasure is brought about by a stimulus whereas happiness could be maintained from a mindset or a worldview.

Happiness is light and not at all difficult to imagine whereas pleasure is more difficult to grasp with creativity and thinking alone.

A happy person is not necessarily a person who is experiencing pleasure though the converse is typically true.

An interested person is not necessarily a happy person, though the converse is typically true.

Happiness is bright and airy, light and not difficult to see or entertain as an emotional state.

A happy individual or being, in general, is an engaged being.

A happy being is a being that is above the baseline or norm of emotion yet not so far above the baseline that any negative "coming down" need be mixed into the equation with any necessity.

Happiness, it seems, could be sustained indefinitely, to varying degrees, whereas high emotions such as hypomania and even pleasure seem to come with the idea of a lessening out of the very nature inherent in such emotional psychological states.

There need be no end to happiness and that is why it occupies, primarily, the particular space in the emotion chart I have created.
