the philosophy of libertarianism

I sympathize with libertarians to a great degree and I once considered myself a staunch libertarian because I agree with the personal liberties afforded in such paradigms.

However, I came to realize a number of things that don't work well in the libertarian system.

Firstly, there are no safeguards for those who are the least able to care for themselves in society: the physically and mentally ill.

Also, the potential for the erosion of a well-paid working class is always present and libertarian economics combined with human nature will always result in oligarchies and monopolies in politics and in business.

Sweden's model, though not perfect from a personal rights perspective, appears quite just to me on the economic rights front, and it is a socialist model that appears to work well.

Older thoughts:

Libertarians believe that the individual is the prime focus of rights and privileges and that people do not owe towards the greater good.

While I agree that individual rights are paramount, I also believe that a libertarian economic system will result in corruption and virtual debt slavery to those who do not rise to the top of the economic pyramid.

I think Libertarian social principles are correct. In other words, I do not think the prohibition of substances or sex is just or rational in a world where demand will always be met with supply.

Also, I believe that individuals should have the rights to free speech, privacy, and the right to defense from tyranny as a basis for the right to keep arms.

However, libertarian economics will lead to a virtual corporatocracy, such as exists in the United States in 2010.

The libertarian economic model will lead to revolution because it encorages a disparity in wealth that leads to human suffering.

Monopolies destroy economies and competition.

Virtual dictatorships, such as the one currently in place in the United States of 2010, begin to remove social liberties.

By virtual dictatorship, I mean a dictatorship complete with the illusion of political freedom and choice. Democrats and Republicans differ only in their rhetoric.

Ultimately, they are both corporatocratic fascists that take bribes from the wealthy to subsidize and favor the wealthy.

This is the problem with libertarian economics.

Libertarian economics do not account for the corrupting nature of money on the political structure.

This will always be a problem and it will always happen unless a system is put in place to protect against it.

In other words, a libertarian legal and social framework combined with a socialist economic policy, is the best possible system.

And, when I say socialist economic policy I do not mean a welfare state where incentive to work is stagnant.

Rather, I mean a society that taxes the wealthy to pay for everyone's infrastructure and quality of life through education and healthcare.

If the United States did not spend trillions of dollars a year on a global military and space empire as well as a massive, gestappo-like security complex, we could have a nation in which education and peaceful cooperation could be the focus.

Rather, we have a policy of propaganda and mediocre education.

We have a nation where the top 1% have 95% of the wealth. This can only lead to resentment, stagnation, and class strife.
